Minecraft Bedrock
Connecting from console, phone or Windows, ops, allow-lists and performance.
Bedrock is a different game
Bedrock is the version on consoles, phones, tablets and the Windows "Minecraft" app. It speaks a different network protocol from Java, so Java software cannot run it and Java players cannot join it. If some of your group are on Java and some on Bedrock, you need one of each, or a proxy that we do not currently offer.
Connecting
Your address has a port on the end, and Bedrock needs both parts entered separately:
- Server address —
yourname.knightkeep.net - Port — the number after the colon
On Windows, phone and tablet: Play → Servers → Add Server, then enter the two fields.
Consoles
Xbox, PlayStation and Switch do not let you type in a server address. That is Mojang's restriction, not ours, and there is no setting on our side that changes it. The usual ways around it are:
- Join a friend who is already on the server from a device that can add it.
- Use one of the third-party DNS services that replace the featured-server
list. We do not run these and cannot support them.
Making yourself an operator
In the Console tab, with the server running:
op YourGamertag
Use the exact gamertag, including capitals and spaces. If it does not take, check the console output — Bedrock will tell you it could not find the player, which usually means a typo or that they have never joined.
The allow-list
Bedrock's own default is an allow-list that is switched on with nobody on it, which refuses everyone including the person who just bought the server. We turn it off when we build your server so it works out of the box.
To make the server private:
allowlist on
allowlist add YourFriend
Everyone already connected stays connected, so add yourself before turning it on.
Performance
Bedrock asks for eight worker threads no matter how many it has actually been given, which on a smaller plan means those threads fight over the same core. The symptom is stutter while flying and slow chunk generation rather than anything that looks obviously broken. We set the thread count to match your plan when we build the server, so you should not need to touch this.
If it still feels rough:
- View distance in Settings is the biggest lever. The server never sends
chunks past it, so raising it on your client alone does nothing.
- Flying in creative generates chunks as fast as the machine can manage. That
is the hardest thing you can ask of it, and is not a fair test of normal play.
Ray tracing
Ray tracing is a client setting, not a server one — there is nothing to switch off here. On Windows it lives under Settings → Video → Ray Tracing, and it only appears at all if you have loaded a resource pack that supports it.
Still stuck? Get in touch with your server name and the last few lines of your console.
