Palworld
The two passwords, joining by address or server list, and world settings.
You have two passwords, and they are not interchangeable
This catches almost everyone, so it is worth being blunt about:
- Join password — what players type to get into the server. This is the one
you give your friends.
- Admin password — unlocks admin commands *after* you are already in the
game. It will not get you through the front door.
Both are on your server's page in the portal, each labelled with what it does. If the game says your password is wrong when connecting, you have almost certainly used the admin one.
Connecting
The reliable way is by address:
- Join Multiplayer Game
- Click Join with IP (bottom of the screen)
- Enter your full address including the port —
yourname.knightkeep.net:25567 - Enter the join password when prompted
Your server also appears in the in-game community list under the name you were given at checkout, but that list is slow to update and search on it is unreliable. Joining by address always works and is worth using first.
Admin commands
Once in the game, press Enter to open the chat and authenticate:
/AdminPassword YourAdminPassword
You can then use commands like /Shutdown, /KickPlayer, /BanPlayer and /Save. Commands are case-sensitive.
World settings
Difficulty, rates, day length and the rest live in a file rather than a menu:
Files → Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
Edit it there and restart the server. Palworld reads this file once at startup, so changes made while it is running are ignored, and a change that appears not to have worked is nearly always a missing restart.
Some values — the server name, player limit and both passwords — are written from your server's settings each time it boots, so edit those in the portal rather than in the file, or your edit will be overwritten on the next restart.
Saving
Palworld saves on its own schedule and on a clean shutdown. Use the Restart button rather than killing the server if you want to be sure the last few minutes are written out. Before doing anything drastic, take a copy of the Pal/Saved folder from the Files tab.
Memory
Palworld is unusually memory-hungry and grows as your world and base count do. A world that has been played in for months will use far more than a fresh one. If the server starts restarting on its own after a long stretch of play, that is what to suspect first — the console will show it stopping rather than crashing with an error.
Still stuck? Get in touch with your server name and the last few lines of your console.
