Settings, mods and plugins

Changing how your server behaves, and installing add-ons safely.

Settings

The Settings tab exposes the options people actually change, with the values checked before they are saved. That is deliberate: a typo in a raw config file can stop a server booting, and finding out means reading a stack trace.

For Minecraft that includes the message of the day, max players, difficulty, game mode, PvP, whitelist, view distance and flight.

For Valheim it includes crossplay — see below, because it changes how people join.

Most settings need a restart. The page says so when that is the case.

Mods and plugins

Servers that can load add-ons get a Mods or Plugins tab, with search across Modrinth. Pick one and it installs directly to your server — the file goes from Modrinth to your server without passing through us, so a large modpack does not crawl.

Which tab you get depends on what your server actually runs:

SoftwareLoadsWhere files go
VanillaFabric modsmods/
FabricFabric modsmods/
NeoForgeNeoForge modsmods/
ForgeForge modsmods/

Loaders are not interchangeable. A Fabric mod will not load on Forge and the other way round, so match whatever your modpack asks for.

Mods must match your Minecraft version. A mod built for a different version will usually stop the server booting rather than simply being ignored.

What Vanilla actually runs

Our Vanilla plan is the unmodified game, tuned for speed. It runs on Fabric carrying a small set of server-side performance mods — chunk generation, lighting, networking and memory. Gameplay is unchanged and your client needs nothing extra; chunks simply load far faster than the stock server.

You can add your own mods to it as well — it is a Fabric server, so the Mods tab and the mods/ folder work exactly as they do on the Modded plan. Ours are listed there too, and you can remove them if you want to.

If you want strict, untouched Mojang behaviour for testing, tell us and we will set that up instead.

Valheim crossplay

Crossplay lets Xbox and Game Pass players join. The trade is how people connect:

  • On — join with the 6-digit code shown on your server page. The address

does not work, and the code changes on every restart.

  • Off — the address works and your server appears in the Steam browser, but

only Steam players can join.

There is no better answer, so it is a switch rather than a decision we make for you.
